These Air Fryer Crispy Onions are a healthier alternative to deep-fried onions, delivering all the crunch and flavor with significantly less oil. Perfect as a topping or snack, they’re easy to make and incredibly satisfying.

Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornmeal
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Cooking spray or a small amount of oil

Instructions

  1. Peel and thinly slice the onion into rings or strips.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Toss the onion slices in the dry mixture until well coated.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 300°F (150°C).
  5. Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or lightly oil it.
  6. Place the coated onions in the basket in a single layer (work in batches if needed).
  7. Air fry for 15–20 minutes, shaking or stirring halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Slice onions uniformly to ensure even cooking.
  • Don’t overcrowd the basket for maximum crispiness.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
