Ingredients

  • For the Bread:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream or plain yogurt
  • 2 cups peeled, diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • Optional Cinnamon-Sugar Topping:
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  • Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Cream butter & sugar: In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  • Combine: Mix in half the dry ingredients, then the sour cream, then the remaining dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in diced apples.
  • Bake: Pour batter into the loaf pan. If using, sprinkle cinnamon-sugar topping evenly over the batter.
  • Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Cool & serve: Let bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack. Slice and enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use Granny Smith apples for tartness or Honeycrisp for a sweeter bread.
  • Add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans for crunch.
  • Drizzle with a powdered sugar glaze for extra sweetness.
  • Bread stays fresh in an airtight container at room temp for 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
