Ingredients

  • For the Apple Filling:
  • 6 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • For the Crisp Topping:
  • ¾ cup old-fashioned oats
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Pour into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Evenly sprinkle the topping over the apples.
  6. Bake for 40–45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
