It’s an easy-to-make dessert that delivers all the delicious flavors of apple pie without the fuss of a full pie. A perfect treat for any occasion, with minimal prep time and maximum flavor!

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry (store-bought or homemade)
  • 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tbsp butter, diced into small pieces (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface. Trim the edges if needed to fit the baking sheet.
  3. In a bowl, combine the apple slices, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Stir well until apples are evenly coated.
  4. Arrange the apple mixture in the center of the puff pastry, leaving a border around the edges.
  5. Fold the edges of the puff pastry over the apples to create a rustic tart-like shape, ensuring the apples are slightly exposed.
  6. Dot the filling with small pieces of butter, if desired.
  7. Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg to give it a golden finish.
  8. Place the puff pastry on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  9. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Add nuts: For extra crunch, consider adding chopped walnuts or pecans to the apple filling.
  • Use different fruits: Swap apples for pears or berries for a different flavor profile.
  • Spice it up: Add a pinch of cloves or ginger for a more robust spice mix.
  • Caramel drizzle: After baking, drizzle caramel sauce over the top for an indulgent finish.
