These Baked Apple Fritters offer a healthier twist on the classic deep-fried treat. With tender, spiced apples, warm cinnamon and nutmeg, and a sweet glaze, these fritters make the perfect breakfast or dessert. Baked to golden perfection, they are crispy on the outside and soft inside!

Ingredients

  • For the Fritters:
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups diced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • For the Glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk (adjust as needed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prepare the Fritters:
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In a separate bowl, mix eggs, milk, vanilla, and melted butter.
  • Gradually combine the wet ingredients with the dry, stirring until a thick batter forms.
  • Gently fold in diced apples.
  • Shape and Bake:
  • Spoon the batter onto the baking sheet in small mounds.
  • Bake for 15–18 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Prepare the Glaze:
  • While fritters are cooling, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze.
  • Glaze and Serve:
  • Drizzle the glaze over warm fritters. Allow it to set and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, consider adding chopped nuts like walnuts.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
