Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef (sirloin or flank steak), thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
  • 2 cups cooked rice (white, brown, or jasmine)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Sesame seeds (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro or green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the sliced beef to the pan and cook until browned, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the beef from the skillet and set it aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the bell peppers, onion, and garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and cornstarch mixture.
  5. Return the beef to the skillet and pour the sauce over the beef and peppers. Stir to coat everything evenly. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the beef and pepper mixture over a bed of rice, garnished with sesame seeds and fresh herbs, if desired.

Notes

  • You can use any color bell pepper or add more vegetables like mushrooms or snap peas.
  • For a spicier version, add a sliced chili pepper or a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • If you prefer a thicker sauce, add a bit more cornstarch and water mixture.
