This Cheese Bread recipe is a delicious, savory bread perfect for any occasion. Soft, fluffy, and filled with melted cheese, it’s the ultimate comfort food. This homemade bread will quickly become a family favorite!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (or butter)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese (or a blend of your favorite cheese)
  • 1 egg (for brushing on top)
  • Optional: herbs (like rosemary or thyme) for extra flavor

Instructions

  • Activate Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture is frothy.
  • Mix Dough: In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center, pour in the yeast mixture, and add olive oil. Stir until combined.
  • Knead Dough: Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  • Add Cheese: Punch down the dough and fold in 1 ¼ cups of shredded cheese.
  • Shape the Dough: Form the dough into a loaf shape or divide it into smaller rolls. Place the dough on a greased baking sheet or in a greased loaf pan.
  • Second Rise: Cover the dough again and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Brush with Egg: Before baking, brush the top of the dough with a beaten egg to create a golden, glossy finish.
  • Bake: Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top of the dough and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  • Cool and Serve: Allow the bread to cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can use any cheese of your choice like mozzarella, gouda, or parmesan for different flavor variations.
  • For extra flavor, mix some garlic powder or herbs into the dough or on top of the bread before baking.
  • This bread is best served warm but can be stored in an airtight container for 2-3 days.
