These Chicken Cheese Steak Sandwiches are a flavorful twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, featuring tender chicken, sautéed onions, bell peppers, and melted provolone cheese, all nestled in a toasted hoagie roll. Perfect for a quick and satisfying dinner, these sandwiches are customizable with optional toppings like sautéed mushrooms or pickled jalapeños for an extra kick.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken breast or thighs, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper (any color), thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (optional)
  • 4 hoagie rolls or sub rolls
  • 4 slices provolone cheese (or American cheese)
  • Optional toppings: sautéed mushrooms, pickled jalapeños, or extra onions and bell peppers

Instructions

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook for 5-7 minutes until fully cooked.
  • Add sliced onion and bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Stir in garlic, paprika, salt, pepper, oregano, and thyme. Cook for another 1-2 minutes.
  • Optionally, drizzle soy sauce over the mixture and stir.
  • Toast hoagie rolls in the oven or toaster oven.
  • Place provolone cheese on the bottom half of each toasted roll.
  • Pile the chicken and vegetable mixture on top, then broil for 1-2 minutes until cheese is melted.
  • Add optional toppings and serve hot.

Notes

  • Serve with fries, coleslaw, or a green salad.
  • Store leftover chicken mixture in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
