Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  • In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the sugar, mayonnaise, water, and vanilla extract until smooth and well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan(s) and bake for 30-35 minutes (or 40-45 minutes for a 9×13 pan), or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
