These festive Christmas Heart Cookies are perfect for the holiday season. Made with simple ingredients and filled with jam, they are buttery, soft, and shaped like hearts for a charming treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup (90g) powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups (312g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Strawberry or raspberry jam (for filling)
  • Extra powdered sugar (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the softened butter and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough in half, flatten into discs, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for 30 minutes.
  6. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
  7. Use a large heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out hearts. Use a smaller heart cutter to cut out the center of half the cookies.
  8. Place cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8–10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  9. Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
  10. Dust the cookies with cut-out centers with powdered sugar.
  11. Spread a small amount of jam on the whole heart cookies and top with the powdered sugar hearts.

Notes

  • Chill the dough to make cutting and transferring cookies easier.
  • Use parchment paper to prevent sticking and for easy cleanup.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week.
