Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and set aside.
  2. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine butter, sugar, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture reaches 290°F (hard crack stage).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. Immediately pour the hot toffee mixture onto the prepared baking sheet and spread evenly.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee and let sit for 2 minutes to melt. Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee.
  6. Sprinkle chopped pecans on top of the chocolate layer.
  7. Let the toffee cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate until set.
  8. Once set, break into pieces and store in an airtight container.

Notes

  • Use a candy thermometer to ensure the toffee reaches the correct temperature.
  • Make sure to stir constantly to prevent burning.
  • You can swap pecans with almonds or walnuts if preferred.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
