Ingredients

  • 8 oz medium pasta shells
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta shells according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  • Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess fat.
  • Add Vegetables & Spices: Add diced onion and cook until softened (about 3 minutes). Stir in garlic, paprika, Italian seasoning, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  • Make the Sauce: Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture and stir to combine. Cook for 1 minute, then gradually stir in beef broth and tomato sauce. Bring to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add Cream & Cheese: Reduce heat to low. Stir in heavy cream, then add shredded cheddar cheese. Stir until melted and smooth. Season with salt to taste.
  • Combine with Pasta: Add cooked pasta shells to the skillet and toss to coat evenly with the creamy beef sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
  • Serve: Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve hot.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, increase the red pepper flakes.
  • Use any short pasta shape like rotini or penne if shells aren’t available.
  • Substitute cheddar with Colby Jack or mozzarella for a different cheese flavor.
