A delicious, spicy, and crispy chilli beef rice dish perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or as a flavorful meal for any occasion. Tender, crispy beef is tossed in a rich, tangy chilli sauce, served over a bed of fluffy rice, offering a perfect balance of heat and sweetness.

Ingredients

  • 300g beef steak (sliced thinly)
  • 1 cup cooked rice
  • 2 tablespoons cornflour (cornstarch)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons chili sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 bell pepper (sliced)
  • 23 fresh red chilies (sliced)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying
  • Fresh coriander for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Beef: Season the sliced beef with a pinch of salt and pepper. In a separate bowl, combine the cornflour, all-purpose flour, and beaten egg. Coat the beef strips in the flour mixture until well coated.
  • Fry the Beef: Heat oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Fry the coated beef until crispy and golden brown. Remove from the pan and drain excess oil on a paper towel.
  • Make the Sauce: In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed. Sauté the garlic, onion, bell pepper, and fresh red chilies until softened.
  • Add the Sauces: Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, rice vinegar, chili sauce, and sugar. Stir well to combine. Let the sauce simmer and thicken for 2-3 minutes.
  • Combine: Add the crispy beef back into the pan, tossing to coat it in the sauce. Stir for another 2-3 minutes to ensure the beef is well coated and heated through.
  • Serve: Serve the crispy chilli beef over a bed of rice, garnish with fresh coriander if desired, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Adjust the spice level by adding or reducing the amount of chili sauce and fresh chilies.
  • You can use jasmine or basmati rice for a fragrant base.
  • For a lighter version, you can pan-fry the beef without the flour coating.
