These crispy mashed potato fries are a delicious twist on traditional French fries, made from leftover mashed potatoes mixed with cheese and seasonings, then fried to golden perfection. Perfect as a snack or appetizer!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (leftover or freshly made)
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup cornflour (cornstarch)
  • Oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine mashed potatoes, mozzarella, cheddar, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cornflour. Mix until well combined.
  2. Transfer the mixture onto a parchment-lined tray and spread evenly into a rectangle about 1/2-inch thick.
  3. Cover and refrigerate for 1–2 hours or until firm.
  4. Once set, cut the chilled potato mixture into fry-shaped sticks using a knife or pizza cutter.
  5. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
  6. Fry the potato sticks in batches until golden brown and crispy, about 3–4 minutes per batch.
  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Use cold, firm mashed potatoes for best results.
  • You can customize with herbs or different cheeses.
  • Make sure oil is hot enough before frying to prevent sogginess.
  • Can be air-fried or baked as a healthier alternative.
