Ingredients

  • 1 cup shrimp, peeled, deveined, and chopped
  • 1 cup white fish fillets, chopped (like cod or tilapia)
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (panko works best)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  • Prepare the filling: In a mixing bowl, combine chopped shrimp, fish, cream cheese, mozzarella, parsley, lemon juice, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly combined.
  • Form poppers: Scoop out a tablespoon of the seafood mixture and roll it into a ball. Repeat with the remaining mixture. Shape the balls into small, bite-sized poppers.
  • Coating: Set up a breading station: In one shallow bowl, place flour. In another, place the beaten egg. In a third, place the breadcrumbs. Dip each popper into the flour, then the egg, and finally coat it in breadcrumbs.
  • Fry: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the poppers in the oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  • Serve: Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as tartar sauce or a spicy aioli.

Notes

  • If you want a lighter version, you can bake these seafood poppers at 400°F for about 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • You can use any firm white fish you prefer, like haddock or snapper.
