These Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt Nut Bars are the perfect combination of rich dark chocolate, crunchy mixed nuts, and a touch of sea salt for an irresistible sweet and salty treat. Packed with protein and healthy fats, these bars make for a great snack or a post-workout energy boost. Simple to make, they’re both indulgent and nutritious!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups mixed nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, cashews, pecans)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened dark chocolate chips (or chopped dark chocolate)
  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup peanut butter or almond butter
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt (plus extra for sprinkling)
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds or flaxseeds (optional, for added nutrition)

Instructions

  • Prepare the baking dish: Line a small baking pan (8×8 or 9×9) with parchment paper or lightly grease it for easy removal.
  • Toast the nuts: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the mixed nuts on a baking sheet and toast them for about 5-7 minutes, or until fragrant. Let them cool slightly before chopping them into smaller pieces (if desired).
  • Melt the chocolate and mix: In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the dark chocolate chips, honey (or maple syrup), and peanut butter, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and add the vanilla extract and sea salt.
  • Combine the ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the chopped nuts and optional chia or flaxseeds. Pour the melted chocolate mixture over the nuts and stir until everything is well-coated.
  • Press and chill: Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking pan, pressing it down firmly to ensure the bars hold together. Sprinkle a little extra sea salt on top.
  • Chill and set: Place the pan in the fridge for about 1-2 hours, or until the bars are firm and set.
  • Cut and serve: Once set, remove the bars from the pan and cut them into squares or rectangles. Store the bars in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.

Notes

  • Feel free to use your favorite combination of nuts or add in dried fruits like cranberries or raisins for a variation.
  • For a more decadent treat, drizzle extra melted chocolate on top before chilling.
  • These bars can also be frozen for longer storage. Just make sure to thaw slightly before eating.
