Ingredients

  • 2 boneless chicken breasts (or thighs), minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons flour (for binding)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder (for fluffiness)
  • 1 cup buttermilk (for dipping)
  • Vegetable oil for frying (enough to submerge the donuts)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the minced chicken, egg, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and baking powder. Mix everything together until well combined. The mixture should hold together well, but not be too dry.
  • Shape the Donuts: Take small portions of the chicken mixture and shape them into donut-like rings. You can either form them by hand or use a donut mold to get a perfect round shape.
  • Coat the Chicken Donuts: Once shaped, dip each chicken donut into the buttermilk and then coat them with extra breadcrumbs for a crispy outer layer.
  • Fry the Donuts: Heat vegetable oil in a large frying pan or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop the chicken donuts into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for about 4-5 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  • Drain the Oil: Once cooked, remove the chicken donuts from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  • Serve: Serve your chicken donuts hot with your favorite dipping sauce, like ranch dressing, honey mustard, or BBQ sauce.

Notes

  • You can add other spices or herbs to the chicken mixture to suit your taste, like cayenne pepper for heat or thyme for an herby flavor.
  • If you don’t have buttermilk, you can use regular milk with a splash of lemon juice or vinegar to mimic buttermilk’s tangy flavor.
  • For a healthier option, you can bake these chicken donuts instead of frying them. Simply place them on a baking sheet and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through.
