Easy Mince & Mash is a quick, budget-friendly comfort meal made with pantry staples and simple ingredients. Perfect for a last-minute dinner, it features a rich, savory mince served over creamy mashed potatoes and is easy to customize with your favorite vegetables or seasonings.

Ingredients

  • 500g minced beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium carrot, grated
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 cup beef stock or prepared gravy
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste or ketchup
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 800g potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup milk or cream

Instructions

  1. Peel and chop the potatoes into chunks. Place them in a large pot of salted water and bring to a boil. Cook until soft, about 15–20 minutes.
  2. While the potatoes cook, heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft.
  3. Stir in the garlic and grated carrot, cooking for another 2–3 minutes.
  4. Add the minced beef to the pan. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
  5. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  6. Pour in the beef stock or gravy and bring to a simmer. Let it cook for about 10 minutes, then stir in the peas and cook for an additional 2–3 minutes.
  7. Once the potatoes are soft, drain and mash them with butter and milk or cream until smooth and fluffy. Season with salt and pepper.
  8. Serve the seasoned mince over a generous scoop of mashed potatoes.

Notes

  • Swap minced beef for lamb, chicken, or turkey for variation.
  • Add celery or mushrooms for more flavor depth.
  • Stir grated cheese into mash for a cheesy twist.
  • Use sweet potatoes for a nutrient-rich mash alternative.
  • Add chili flakes or paprika for a spicy kick.
