These crispy fried mozzarella balls are a perfect appetizer or snack, featuring gooey melted cheese coated in a golden breadcrumb crust.

Ingredients

  • 16 oz mozzarella balls (bocconcini or ciliegine)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Marinara sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Drain the mozzarella balls and pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. Set up a breading station with three bowls: flour in one, beaten eggs in another, and breadcrumbs mixed with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning in the third.
  3. Coat each mozzarella ball first in flour, then dip in the egg, and finally roll in the breadcrumb mixture until fully coated.
  4. Place the coated mozzarella balls on a tray and freeze for 30 minutes to firm up.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the mozzarella balls in batches for 1-2 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with marinara sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Freezing the mozzarella balls before frying helps prevent cheese leakage.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crunch.
  • You can double coat for an even crispier texture.
