This Easy Shell Pasta with Ground Turkey is a quick and flavorful dinner that combines tender pasta with lean ground turkey in a savory tomato sauce. Perfect for busy weeknights, this dish is healthy, satisfying, and easy to make for the whole family.

Ingredients

  • 12 oz shell pasta (or your preferred pasta)
  • 1 lb ground turkey (preferably lean)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes (or crushed tomatoes)
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving (optional)

Instructions

  • Cook the shell pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  • While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the ground turkey to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it’s browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the turkey. Cook until the onion softens, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to combine.
  • Add the cooked pasta to the skillet and toss to combine. Let it cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
  • Serve the pasta in bowls, garnished with fresh basil or parsley and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan, if desired.

Notes

  • For added vegetables, you can toss in some spinach, bell peppers, or zucchini with the onions.
  • Feel free to swap the ground turkey for ground chicken or ground beef if preferred.
  • Adjust the seasonings to suit your taste, adding more red pepper flakes for extra heat.
