A rich and creamy French Chocolate Flan, combining the silky texture of flan with the deep flavor of chocolate for an indulgent dessert that’s surprisingly easy to make.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar (for caramel)
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can (12 oz) evaporated milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar until it turns into a golden caramel. Carefully pour the caramel into a round flan mold or cake pan, tilting to coat the bottom evenly. Set aside.
  3. In a blender, combine sweetened condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, vanilla extract, and melted chocolate. Blend until smooth and well combined.
  4. Pour the mixture over the caramel in the flan mold.
  5. Place the flan mold in a larger baking dish and fill the outer dish with hot water to create a water bath.
  6. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from oven and let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  8. To serve, run a knife around the edges and invert onto a serving plate.

Notes

  • Use a metal pan for better caramelization.
  • Let the flan chill overnight for the best texture.
  • Melt the chocolate chips gently to avoid burning.
