Ingredients
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
Green food coloring
Red heart sprinkles or candies
Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth and fluffy.
Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using).
Add green food coloring until the desired color is achieved.
Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until fully combined.
Roll rounded teaspoons of dough into balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Lightly press a red heart sprinkle or candy into the center of each cookie.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until edges are just starting to turn golden.
Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for a couple of minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
Optional: Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
Don’t overbake to keep the cookies soft and chewy.
You can use gel or liquid green food coloring, but gel gives a more vibrant color.
Red heart candies can be found in baking sections, especially around Valentine’s Day or Christmas.
