Honey Sesame Chicken is a crispy and flavorful Asian-inspired dish featuring fried chicken pieces tossed in a sticky, sweet-savory sauce made with honey, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Perfect for weeknight dinners or entertaining, it’s easy to make and a family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, chopped (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper in a large bowl.
  2. Mix cornstarch and flour in a shallow dish.
  3. Dredge each chicken piece in the flour mixture, dip in beaten eggs, then coat again in the flour mixture.
  4. Heat oil in a deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  5. Fry the chicken in batches until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
  6. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine garlic, soy sauce, honey, ketchup, rice vinegar, and sesame oil. Bring to a gentle boil.
  7. Simmer the sauce for a few minutes until it thickens slightly.
  8. Add the fried chicken to the sauce and toss until evenly coated.
  9. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Use chicken breast or thigh based on preference, but avoid overcooking breast meat.
  • Double the sauce if serving with rice or noodles and prefer it extra saucy.
  • For a spicy kick, add red pepper flakes or sriracha to the sauce.
  • To keep chicken crispy, toss in sauce just before serving.
  • Air-frying or baking is a healthier alternative to deep frying.
