These hearty meatball subs are packed with tender homemade beef meatballs, rich marinara sauce, and melted mozzarella, all tucked into toasted hoagie rolls. Perfect for a satisfying weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 4 sturdy hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic powder, and salt until well mixed.
  3. Shape the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs and place them on the prepared baking dish.
  4. Bake for 20-25 minutes until cooked through and lightly browned.
  5. Meanwhile, warm marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat.
  6. Place cooked meatballs into hoagie rolls and spoon warm marinara sauce over the top.
  7. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella over each sub and broil for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Notes

  • Toast the hoagie rolls lightly before assembling for extra texture.
  • You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter option.
  • Leftover meatballs can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
