Ingredients
500 g all-purpose flour
80 g granulated sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp ground cardamom
1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
300 ml whole milk, lukewarm
75 g unsalted butter, softened
100 g dark chocolate chips
1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, cardamom, and dry yeast.
Pour in the lukewarm milk and mix until a dough forms.
Add softened butter and knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Cover the bowl with a cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
After the dough has risen, gently deflate it and mix in the chocolate chips by kneading them into the dough.
Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and shape each into a round bun.
Place the buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
Brush the buns with beaten egg for a shiny finish.
Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown.
Let the buns cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor.
You can substitute chocolate chips with chopped chocolate bars.
For a richer dough, you can use half milk and half cream.
Best enjoyed warm, but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
