This Peach Cobbler is a classic Southern dessert made with sweet, juicy peaches and a buttery, golden-brown topping. Simple to make and packed with flavor, it’s the perfect comforting treat served warm with a scoop of ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 (29-ounce) can sliced peaches in syrup (do not drain)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the butter in a 9×13-inch baking dish and put it in the oven to melt while it preheats.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Stir in the milk until just combined to form a batter.
  4. Once the butter is melted, remove the baking dish from the oven. Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter—do not stir.
  5. Spoon the peaches with their syrup evenly over the batter. Again, do not stir. Optionally sprinkle with cinnamon.
  6. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cobbler is set.
  7. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

  • Don’t stir after layering to achieve the proper cobbler texture.
  • Fresh or frozen peaches can be used in place of canned—just add some sugar and juice.
  • Great served warm or at room temperature.
