This Peppermint Mocha is a festive, cozy drink made with strong coffee, cocoa powder, milk, sugar, and peppermint extract. It’s a homemade version of a holiday favorite, perfect for chilly mornings or an afternoon pick-me-up.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk (any kind)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup strong brewed coffee or 12 shots espresso
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Whipped cream, optional for topping
  • Crushed candy canes or chocolate shavings, optional for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, whisk together milk, sugar, and cocoa powder until combined and steaming (do not boil).
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the brewed coffee or espresso and peppermint extract.
  3. Pour into a mug and top with whipped cream and crushed candy canes or chocolate shavings, if desired.
  4. Serve immediately and enjoy!

  • Adjust the amount of peppermint extract to taste — a little goes a long way!
