Ingredients
1 cup warm milk (110°F)
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
6 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp red food coloring
4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup brown sugar, packed (for filling)
2 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon (for filling)
6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
8 oz cream cheese, softened (for frosting)
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
1–2 tbsp milk (to thin frosting if needed)
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Add sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Mix until combined.
Add flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix and knead until a soft dough forms (about 8–10 minutes).
Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Roll out dough on a floured surface into a large rectangle.
Spread softened butter over dough, then sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
Roll dough tightly into a log and slice into 12 rolls.
Place rolls in a greased 9×13 baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30–45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.
While rolls bake, make frosting: beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, add powdered sugar and vanilla, mix well. Add milk to reach desired consistency.
Spread frosting over warm rolls and serve.
Notes
You can make the rolls ahead and refrigerate overnight before baking.
Add heart-shaped sprinkles or pink/red decorations for extra Valentine’s flair.
Let the rolls cool slightly before frosting to prevent melting.
