Ingredients

  • For the Filling:
  • 4 cups apples, peeled and sliced (or pears for variation)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ½ cup water
  • For the Cobbler Topping:
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup milk
  • For the Cinnamon-Sugar Coating:
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat your oven to 375 °F (190 °C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, cornstarch, and water. Stir well to coat the apples. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  3. Make the Cobbler Topping: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and sugar. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the egg and milk until just combined. The batter will be thick.
  4. Assemble the Cobbler: Drop spoonfuls of the cobbler batter over the apple mixture, leaving some space between the dollops.
  5. Add Cinnamon-Sugar: In a small bowl, mix together the cinnamon and sugar. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the top of the cobbler batter.
  6. Bake: Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the cobbler topping is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Serve: Allow the cobbler to cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

  • Feel free to substitute the apples with other fruits like peaches, pears, or berries.
  • The cobbler topping should be slightly biscuit-like, so don’t worry if the batter doesn’t completely cover the fruit—it will spread out as it bakes.
  • To make it a bit richer, you can add a little vanilla extract or nutmeg to the topping.
