Soft, fluffy vegan garlic dough balls brushed with homemade garlic butter. Perfect as a party snack, side dish, or appetizer – these are packed with flavor and completely dairy-free.

Ingredients

  • 500g (4 cups + 2 Tbsp) strong white bread flour
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 300ml (1¼ cups) warm water
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 50g (3.5 Tbsp) vegan butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the bread flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add the warm water and olive oil, then stir to form a rough dough.
  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and leave to rise until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
  5. Knock back the dough and divide it into 20 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball.
  6. Place the dough balls in a greased baking dish, cover loosely, and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  8. Bake the dough balls for 20-25 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  9. While baking, melt the vegan butter in a pan, then add the garlic and cook for a minute. Stir in parsley and a pinch of salt.
  10. Brush the baked dough balls with the garlic butter and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can prepare the dough ahead of time and let it rise in the fridge overnight.
  • These are best served fresh but can be reheated in the oven.
  • Feel free to add vegan cheese for extra flavor.
