Ingredients
1/2 Cup Cold Butter, cubed
2 Cups Self-rising Flour
3/4 Cup Buttermilk
Melted Butter, for brushing
Instructions
Preheat oven to 425°F. In a large bowl, cut the cold butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the buttermilk just until moistened. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead 3-4 times.
Pat or lightly roll the dough to 3/4-inch thickness. Cut with a floured 2-1/2-inch biscuit cutter.
Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 425°F until golden brown, 11-13 minutes. Brush the tops with melted butter and serve warm.
Notes
Keep the butter and buttermilk cold for the best flaky texture.
Avoid overworking the dough, as this can make the biscuits tough.
Serve warm with butter, jam, honey, or your favorite savory toppings.
