This Amaretto Tiramisu is a rich and elegant Italian dessert featuring espresso-soaked ladyfingers layered with a creamy mascarpone filling and finished with a dusting of cocoa. A splash of Amaretto liqueur adds a warm almond flavor that makes this classic dessert extra special.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup espresso coffee
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 4 tablespoons Amaretto liqueur (Di Saronno or another quality brand, more or less, as desired)
  • 3 egg yolks
  • ½ cup sugar (divided)
  • 1¼ cups mascarpone
  • 16 ladyfingers (Savoiardi)
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (or more, as needed, good quality)
  • 2 tablespoons mini amaretti or crushed amaretti biscuits (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew the espresso, stir in 2 tablespoons sugar while hot, and allow it to cool completely.
  2. Stir the Amaretto into the cooled coffee mixture. Adjust with additional liqueur or water if needed to make about 8 ounces total.
  3. Set up a double boiler by placing a heatproof bowl over barely simmering water without letting the bowl touch the water.
  4. Beat the egg yolks with the remaining sugar off the heat, then place over the double boiler and continue beating until the mixture reaches 150°F (65°C).
  5. Beat for 2 more minutes, then remove from the heat and cool, stirring occasionally to prevent a skin from forming.
  6. Beat the mascarpone into the cooled egg mixture until smooth and well combined.
  7. Pour the coffee mixture into a shallow dish. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee, about 1 second per side, and arrange half of them in a single layer on a serving platter or dish.
  8. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture evenly over the ladyfingers.
  9. Repeat with the remaining dipped ladyfingers and top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
  10. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  11. Before serving, dust generously with cocoa powder and sprinkle with mini or crushed amaretti biscuits if using. Slice and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Do not over-soak the ladyfingers or the dessert may become too soft.
  • For the best flavor and texture, refrigerate overnight before serving.
  • Use high-quality mascarpone, espresso, cocoa powder, and Amaretto for the best results.
  • Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
