Tender cheese ravioli baked in a rich, creamy tomato sauce with Italian sausage, Parmesan, and bubbling mozzarella. This comforting skillet dinner is hearty, cheesy, and perfect for feeding a crowd.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound Italian sausage (mild or hot, casings removed)
  • 6 cloves garlic (crushed with a garlic press or minced)
  • Pinch red pepper flakes
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes (2 14-ounce cans)
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1820 ounces refrigerated cheese ravioli
  • ⅓ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup (2oz) shredded Parmesan
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1½ cup (6oz) shredded mozzarella

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a 12-inch or larger oven-safe skillet with a lid over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook, breaking it into crumbles with a spatula, until well browned. Drain or blot away excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in the garlic and red pepper flakes. Cook for 30 seconds to 1 minute, until the garlic is lightly golden and aromatic.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to maintain a gentle simmer, cover, and cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add the ravioli and cook for 1 minute less than the package instructions recommend. Drain and set aside.
  6. After the sauce has simmered for 15 minutes, stir in the heavy cream, Parmesan, and dried basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Gently stir the cooked ravioli into the sauce until completely coated and evenly distributed in the skillet.
  8. Sprinkle the mozzarella evenly over the top. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy.

Notes

  • Cook the ravioli for 1 minute less than the package directions because it will continue cooking in the oven.
  • Either mild or hot Italian sausage can be used depending on your preferred spice level.
  • If the sausage releases a significant amount of fat, drain the excess before adding the garlic.
  • Use a large oven-safe skillet so the dish can go directly from the stovetop to the oven.
