These classic butter biscuits are fluffy, buttery, and perfect for any meal. Whether served with breakfast, as a side for dinner, or enjoyed with jam and honey, they’re a quick and easy homemade treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (omit baking powder and salt if using self-rising flour)
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup salted butter, cut into small pieces (add 1/4 tsp more salt if using unsalted)
  • 1 cup milk (regular or buttermilk)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
2️⃣ In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
3️⃣ Add butter and mix until the mixture becomes crumbly.
4️⃣ Pour in milk and mix until just combined (do not overmix!).
5️⃣ Turn the dough onto a floured surface and roll to 3/4 inch thick.
6️⃣ Cut out biscuits and place them touching each other on an ungreased baking sheet.
7️⃣ Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden brown.

Notes

  • For extra flaky biscuits, keep butter cold before mixing.
  • Using buttermilk instead of regular milk adds richness and tang.
  • To achieve tall biscuits, make sure they touch each other on the baking sheet.
  • Brush with melted butter after baking for a golden, soft finish.
