These sweet and spicy candied pecans are perfectly crisp with a light caramelized coating and a hint of cayenne heat. They make a delicious snack, salad topping, or homemade gift.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 4 teaspoons water
  • 2 cups pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and position a rack in the center of the oven. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the confectioners’ sugar, kosher salt, cayenne pepper, and water until combined.
  3. Add the pecans and stir until they are evenly coated with the sugar mixture.
  4. Spread the coated pecans in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Scrape any remaining glaze from the bowl over the nuts.
  5. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the pecans are caramelized and the glaze is a rich brown color without burning. Watch the edges carefully, as they brown first.
  6. Immediately slide the parchment paper off the hot baking sheet onto the countertop and let the pecans cool completely. Break apart any clusters and store in an airtight container for up to two weeks.

Notes

  • For less heat, reduce or omit the cayenne pepper.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
  • Enjoy as a snack or use as a topping for salads, oatmeal, yogurt, or desserts.
  • Allow the pecans to cool completely before storing to maintain their crisp texture.
