Sweet, buttery caramelized bananas are cooked in a rich brown sugar sauce with a splash of dark rum for a quick and indulgent dessert. Perfect served over ice cream or enjoyed on their own.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp butter (good quality)
  • 3 Tbsp dark brown sugar
  • 1 ripe banana (not overly ripe or brown), peeled, cut in half and sliced lengthwise
  • 2 Tbsp dark rum (omit for alcohol-free)

Instructions

  1. Place the butter and dark brown sugar in a sauté pan over low heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble.
  2. Simmer for about 2 minutes, then add the banana slices. Continue to simmer, gently turning the bananas for about 1 minute.
  3. Add the dark rum, stir to combine, and remove the pan from the heat.
  4. Serve the caramelized bananas over scoops of ice cream, drizzling the caramel sauce over the top, or enjoy as desired.

Notes

  • For an alcohol-free version, simply omit the rum.
  • Use bananas that are ripe but still firm so they hold their shape while cooking.
  • Delicious served over vanilla ice cream, pancakes, waffles, or French toast.
  • Best enjoyed immediately while warm.
