Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 ½ tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)

For Coating:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

For Dipping (Optional):

  • Melted chocolate or caramel sauce

Instructions

  • Prepare Dough: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine water, butter, sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, then add flour all at once. Stir continuously until a dough forms and pulls away from the pan. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • Incorporate Egg & Vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla extract to the dough, mixing until smooth. Transfer to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  • Heat Oil: In a deep pan, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry the Churros: Pipe small dollops of dough directly into the hot oil, cutting each with a knife or scissors. Fry in batches until golden brown (about 2-3 minutes per batch).
  • Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: Remove churro poppers and drain on paper towels. Toss in a mix of sugar and cinnamon while warm.
  • Serve: Enjoy warm with chocolate or caramel sauce for dipping!

Notes

  • Make sure the oil stays at a consistent temperature for even frying.
  • If the dough is too thick to pipe, let it cool a bit more before adding the egg.
  • Best served fresh but can be reheated in an air fryer for crispiness.
