Ingredients

  • 12 lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 (15 oz) container ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Cook Lasagna Noodles: Boil lasagna noodles according to package instructions, drain, and set aside.
  • Prepare Meat Sauce: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, cooking until browned. Add onions and garlic, cooking for another 3-4 minutes until soft. Stir in marinara sauce, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • Prepare Ricotta Mixture: In a separate bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Stir in fresh parsley.
  • Assemble Lasagna: In a 9×13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Layer lasagna noodles on top, followed by a layer of ricotta mixture, then mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers, finishing with meat sauce and a generous sprinkle of mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses on top.
  • Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, until bubbly and golden on top.
  • Serve: Let lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, consider adding a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sauce for a mild kick.
  • You can make the lasagna ahead of time and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • To make this dish even heartier, you can add spinach or mushrooms to the meat sauce.
