This easy sour cream raisin pie features plump raisins in a rich, creamy, sweet-tart custard filling baked in a flaky pie crust. A comforting, old-fashioned dessert that’s perfect for holidays and family gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (9-inch) unbaked pie crust

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place the raisins in a small bowl and cover with boiling water. Allow them to soak until plump, then drain thoroughly.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the sugar and flour until evenly blended.
  4. Add the eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  5. Fold the drained raisins into the sour cream mixture until evenly distributed.
  6. Pour the filling into the unbaked 9-inch pie crust and spread evenly.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 40 to 45 minutes, or until the filling is set and the top is lightly golden.
  8. Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool completely so the custard can firm up before slicing.
  9. Slice and serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Soak the raisins in hot water before adding them to the filling for a softer, juicier texture.
  • Drain the raisins thoroughly to prevent excess moisture from thinning the custard.
  • Full-fat sour cream provides the richest flavor and creamiest consistency.
  • If the crust edges brown too quickly, cover them loosely with aluminum foil.
  • Allow the pie to cool completely before slicing for clean, neat servings.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the filling.
  • Store leftover pie covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.
  • Nutrition values are approximate and will vary depending on the pie crust and ingredients used.
