Ingredients
5 cups fresh strawberries, quartered
2 tablespoons maple syrup
2 tablespoons corn starch
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup almond flour (or whole wheat flour)
1/2 cup roughly chopped pecans
1/4 cup roughly chopped walnuts
1/2 cup applesauce
2 tablespoons maple syrup
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine the strawberries, 2 tablespoons maple syrup, corn starch, lemon juice, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Stir until combined.
Pour the strawberry mixture into an 8×8-inch square pan or a 9-inch pie plate.
Combine the oats, almond flour, chopped pecans, and chopped walnuts in a mixing bowl. Stir to combine.
Add the applesauce, remaining 2 tablespoons maple syrup, cinnamon, and salt. Stir until all ingredients are evenly combined.
Spoon the oat topping evenly over the strawberry filling.
Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the oat topping is golden brown and the strawberry filling is bubbling.
Let cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
Notes
Whole wheat flour can be used instead of almond flour, but the recipe will no longer be gluten free unless a certified gluten-free alternative is used.
Allowing the crisp to cool for 10 to 15 minutes helps the strawberry filling thicken before serving.
Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and reheat gently before serving if desired.
