A simple and vibrant cranberry sauce with the perfect balance of tart and sweet flavors, ideal for holiday meals.

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon orange zest
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cranberries and discard any that are soft or damaged.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  3. Add the cranberries, salt, orange zest, and orange juice to the saucepan.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer.
  5. Cook for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
  6. Remove from heat and let cool completely; the sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
  7. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sugar to taste.
  • Can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • Add a cinnamon stick or vanilla extract for extra flavor.
  • Frozen cranberries work just as well as fresh.
