- 12 ounces fresh or frozen cranberries
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon orange zest
- 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
- Pinch of salt
- Rinse the cranberries and discard any that are soft or damaged.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
- Add the cranberries, salt, orange zest, and orange juice to the saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer.
- Cook for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cranberries burst and the sauce thickens.
- Remove from heat and let cool completely; the sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
- Serve chilled or at room temperature.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less sugar to taste.
- Can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- Add a cinnamon stick or vanilla extract for extra flavor.
- Frozen cranberries work just as well as fresh.
