This Jack-O-Lantern Cheese Ball is a fun and festive Halloween appetizer made with cream cheese, cheddar cheese, and savory seasonings. Shaped like a pumpkin and decorated with a jack-o-lantern face, it is perfect for Halloween parties and fall gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 packet (1 ounce) ranch seasoning mix
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 bell pepper, for decorating
  • Crackers, pretzels, or fresh vegetables, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, ranch seasoning mix, green onions, and garlic powder. Mix until thoroughly combined.
  2. Transfer the cheese mixture onto a large piece of plastic wrap and shape into a round ball.
  3. Wrap tightly and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or until firm.
  4. Remove the cheese ball from the refrigerator and unwrap it. Roll in the remaining shredded cheddar cheese until completely coated.
  5. Use a butter knife to gently create vertical grooves around the cheese ball to resemble a pumpkin.
  6. Cut triangular eyes, a nose, and a smiling mouth from the bell pepper. Press the pieces gently onto the front of the cheese ball.
  7. Insert the bell pepper stem into the top of the cheese ball to create a pumpkin stem.
  8. Transfer to a serving platter and surround with crackers, pretzels, or fresh vegetables. Serve chilled.

Notes

  • Use softened cream cheese for easier mixing and a smooth texture.
  • Finely shredded orange cheddar cheese creates the best pumpkin appearance.
  • Refrigerate the cheese ball before decorating to help it maintain its shape.
  • Prepare the cheese ball up to 24 hours in advance and refrigerate until ready to serve.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Serve with crackers, pretzels, celery sticks, carrot sticks, or cucumber slices.
  • Add finely chopped jalapenos or cayenne pepper for extra heat.
