Warm homemade apple fritters with crisp golden edges, fluffy centers, tender apple pieces, and a generous cinnamon-sugar coating. This quick no-yeast recipe is perfect for breakfast, brunch, dessert, or an afternoon treat.

Ingredients

  • Vegetable oil for deep-frying
  • All-purpose flour
  • White sugar
  • Baking powder
  • Salt
  • Milk
  • Large eggs, beaten
  • Vegetable oil for the batter
  • Apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
  • Cinnamon sugar

Instructions

  1. Heat the frying oil in a deep fryer, heavy pot, or electric skillet to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, white sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the milk, beaten eggs, and vegetable oil. Stir just until combined into a thick batter, taking care not to overmix.
  4. Fold the peeled, cored, and chopped apples into the batter until evenly distributed.
  5. Working in small batches, carefully drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil without overcrowding the pan.
  6. Fry for approximately 5 minutes, turning as necessary, until the fritters are deeply golden and cooked through.
  7. Remove the fritters with a slotted spoon and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  8. While still warm, toss the fritters generously in cinnamon sugar and serve warm.

Notes

  • Firm apples such as Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji work well. Try combining tart and sweet varieties for more complex flavor.
  • Keep the frying oil close to 375°F (190°C) and allow it to return to temperature between batches to prevent greasy fritters.
  • For extra spice, add ground cinnamon, nutmeg, or apple pie spice to the batter.
  • Instead of cinnamon sugar, finish the fritters with confectioners’ sugar, vanilla glaze, or caramel sauce.
  • For an air fryer variation, cook portions at 350°F (175°C) for 8 to 10 minutes, turning halfway through and lightly spraying with oil as needed.
  • Store cooled fritters in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 1 week.
  • Freeze cooled fritters in a freezer-safe container or bag for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat in an oven, toaster oven, or air fryer at about 350°F (175°C) for the best texture.
