Ingredients
1 block (about 14 oz / 400 grams) extra firm tofu
4 tablespoons nutritional yeast
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
Open the package of tofu and drain off any excess water. Do not press or dry it.
Using your hands, tear the tofu into irregular bite-sized chunks and place them in a bowl.
Add the nutritional yeast, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss well to coat evenly. Cook immediately without letting it sit.
To air fry: Arrange the tofu in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, tossing halfway through, until golden and crispy. Lightly brush the basket with oil if sticking is a concern.
To bake: Spread the tofu on a lined baking tray and bake at 425°F (218°C) for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden and crunchy.
Notes
Serve over rice bowls, salads, or noodles for a protein-packed meal.
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Reheat in an air fryer or oven to restore crispiness.
Add smoked paprika or cayenne pepper for extra flavor.
