This crispy nutritional yeast tofu is packed with savory flavor and a crunchy coating. Perfect for bowls, salads, wraps, or as a high-protein snack.

Ingredients

  • 1 block (about 14 oz / 400 grams) extra firm tofu
  • 4 tablespoons nutritional yeast
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Open the package of tofu and drain off any excess water. Do not press or dry it.
  2. Using your hands, tear the tofu into irregular bite-sized chunks and place them in a bowl.
  3. Add the nutritional yeast, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Toss well to coat evenly. Cook immediately without letting it sit.
  4. To air fry: Arrange the tofu in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, tossing halfway through, until golden and crispy. Lightly brush the basket with oil if sticking is a concern.
  5. To bake: Spread the tofu on a lined baking tray and bake at 425°F (218°C) for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden and crunchy.

Notes

  • Serve over rice bowls, salads, or noodles for a protein-packed meal.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in an air fryer or oven to restore crispiness.
  • Add smoked paprika or cayenne pepper for extra flavor.
