These spooky Pizza Skulls are stuffed with gooey mozzarella cheese, savory pizza sauce, and your favorite toppings, all wrapped in golden pizza dough. Perfect for Halloween parties, themed dinners, or a fun family meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons melted butter (to grease the pan)
  • 3 rolls Pillsbury Pizza Dough (or 33 ounces homemade pizza dough)
  • 9 tablespoons pizza sauce
  • 3/4 cup pizza toppings (mini pepperoni, sausage, ham, pineapple, mushrooms, and/or vegetables)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Egg wash (1 egg mixed with 1 teaspoon water)

Instructions

  1. Cut each sheet of pizza dough in half.
  2. Brush the skull-shaped cavities of your baking pan with melted butter to prevent sticking.
  3. Drape a piece of pizza dough into each skull cavity, gently pressing it into the shape of the mold.
  4. Fill each skull with pizza sauce, your favorite pizza toppings, and shredded mozzarella cheese, distributing the ingredients evenly among the skulls.
  5. Trim away any excess dough, then pinch the seams together firmly to seal the filling inside.
  6. Brush the exposed dough with egg wash to help create a golden-brown crust.
  7. Repeat the process to make 4 skulls if using a Wilton skull pan or 6 skulls if using a Nordic Ware skull pan.
  8. Refrigerate the assembled pizza skulls for 30 minutes to help them maintain their shape during baking.
  9. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Bake for 18–20 minutes if using a Wilton skull pan or 28–30 minutes if using a Nordic Ware skull pan, until the crust is golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Allow the pizza skulls to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then carefully remove them and serve warm.

Notes

  • Pan options: A Wilton skull pan typically makes 4 larger skulls, while a Nordic Ware skull pan makes 6 skulls. Adjust the filling quantities according to the size of your molds.
  • Filling tip: Avoid overfilling the dough to prevent the cheese and sauce from leaking during baking.
  • Pizza toppings: Customize with mini pepperoni, cooked sausage, diced ham, mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, pineapple, or your favorite vegetables.
  • Cheese substitutions: Try provolone, cheddar, or an Italian cheese blend instead of mozzarella.
  • Make ahead: Assemble the pizza skulls in advance and refrigerate until ready to bake.
  • Storage: Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3–4 days.
  • Freezing: Freeze completely cooled pizza skulls in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months.
  • Reheating: Warm in a 350°F oven until heated through and the crust is crisp.
  • Serving suggestion: Serve with extra warm pizza sauce or marinara sauce for dipping.
