These spooky Pizza Skulls are stuffed with gooey mozzarella cheese, savory pizza sauce, and your favorite toppings, all wrapped in golden, crispy pizza dough. Perfect for Halloween parties, themed dinners, or a fun family meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tablespoons melted butter (to grease the pan)
  • 3 rolls Pillsbury Pizza Dough (or 33 ounces homemade pizza dough)
  • 9 tablespoons pizza sauce
  • 3/4 cup pizza toppings (mini pepperoni, sausage, ham, pineapple, mushrooms, and/or vegetables)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg mixed with 1 teaspoon water (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Grease the cavities of a skull-shaped baking pan with melted butter.
  2. Unroll the pizza dough and cut each dough sheet in half to create six portions.
  3. Drape one portion of pizza dough into a skull cavity, gently pressing it against the bottom and sides of the mold.
  4. Fill each skull with pizza sauce, your favorite pizza toppings, and shredded mozzarella cheese, dividing the ingredients evenly among the six portions.
  5. Trim away any excess dough, fold the edges over the filling, and pinch the seams together tightly to seal.
  6. Brush the exposed dough with egg wash to help create a golden-brown crust.
  7. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling. Make four skulls per batch if using a Wilton skull pan or six if using a Nordic Ware skull pan.
  8. Refrigerate the assembled pizza skulls for 30 minutes to help them hold their shape during baking.
  9. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Bake for 18–20 minutes if using the Wilton pan or 28–30 minutes if using the Nordic Ware pan, until the crust is golden brown and cooked through.
  11. Carefully remove the pizza skulls from the pan, allow them to cool slightly, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Pan options: The Wilton skull pan makes four skulls per batch, while the Nordic Ware skull pan makes six. Bake in batches if necessary.
  • Filling quantities: Divide the sauce, toppings, and cheese evenly among the six skulls. Avoid overfilling to prevent the dough from splitting.
  • Pizza toppings: Customize with mini pepperoni, cooked sausage, ham, mushrooms, bell peppers, olives, pineapple, or other favorite pizza toppings.
  • Vegetarian option: Use vegetables and vegetarian-friendly cheese instead of meat toppings.
  • Seal tightly: Pinch the dough seams securely to prevent melted cheese and sauce from leaking during baking.
  • Chilling tip: Refrigerating the assembled skulls for 30 minutes helps the dough maintain its shape.
  • Serving suggestion: Serve with extra warm pizza sauce, marinara sauce, or garlic butter for dipping.
  • Storage: Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3–4 days.
  • Reheating: Warm in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10–15 minutes or until heated through.
  • Make ahead: Assemble the pizza skulls in advance and refrigerate until ready to bake.
  • Timing note: The stated 50-minute time is approximate. Including the 30-minute chilling period, preparation, and baking, the full process may take 65–80 minutes.
