Ingredients
3 oz (from 8-oz package) cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)
1 tablespoon Gold Medal™ All Purpose Flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 large egg, separated, yolk reserved for brownie batter
1 box Betty Crocker™ Supreme Original Brownie Mix
Water, vegetable oil, and egg called for on brownie mix box
Reserved egg yolk
Instructions
Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for a dark or nonstick pan). Grease the bottom of a 9-inch square pan with shortening or cooking spray.
In a small bowl, mix the cream cheese and sugar with a spoon until smooth. Add the pumpkin, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and egg white; mix until well blended. Set aside.
Prepare the brownie batter as directed on the box using the water, vegetable oil, egg, and reserved egg yolk. Transfer 1/2 cup brownie batter to a small bowl and set aside. Spread the remaining batter evenly in the prepared pan.
Spoon the pumpkin cream cheese filling by tablespoonfuls evenly over the brownie batter, arranging the dollops in 3 rows by 3 rows.
Spoon about 1 tablespoon of the reserved brownie batter into the center of each pumpkin filling dollop. Draw a knife through the mixture in four straight lines horizontally, then vertically, to create a swirled design.
Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted 2 inches from the side of the pan comes out almost clean.
Cool for 30 minutes on a cooling rack, then refrigerate for at least 1 hour or until chilled. Cut into 4 rows by 4 rows to make 16 brownies.
Notes
Use canned pure pumpkin, not pumpkin pie mix.
For a dark or nonstick pan, bake at 325°F.
For the best swirl, drag the knife gently through the layers without overmixing them.
