Ingredients
1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
1/2 cup (40g) cocoa powder
1/4 cup (56g) salted butter
1/2 cup milk (any percentage)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and cocoa powder, making sure to remove any lumps.
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the milk, followed by the combined sugar and cocoa powder.
Cook, whisking continuously, until the mixture begins to bubble around the edges and thickens, about 3-8 minutes.
Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Let the sauce sit for 3-5 minutes before serving. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
Serve warm poured over ice cream or your favorite dessert.
Notes
The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
Allow the sauce to rest for 3-5 minutes before serving for a thicker consistency.
