A rich, silky homemade hot fudge sauce made with cocoa powder, butter, and milk. Ready in just 15 minutes and perfect for pouring over ice cream and desserts.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup (40g) cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup (56g) salted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk (any percentage)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and cocoa powder, making sure to remove any lumps.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the milk, followed by the combined sugar and cocoa powder.
  3. Cook, whisking continuously, until the mixture begins to bubble around the edges and thickens, about 3-8 minutes.
  4. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Let the sauce sit for 3-5 minutes before serving. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
  6. Serve warm poured over ice cream or your favorite dessert.

Notes

  • The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
  • Allow the sauce to rest for 3-5 minutes before serving for a thicker consistency.
  • Any percentage of dairy milk can be used.
