Tender chicken breasts baked in a creamy sour cream and onion sauce, delivering a flavorful and comforting dish that’s perfect for weeknight dinners. This easy recipe combines the tanginess of sour cream with savory onions and herbs for a delicious meal served alongside rice, potatoes, or veggies.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet (about 1 oz) onion soup mix
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh chives or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Season chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken breasts for 2-3 minutes per side until lightly browned (they will finish cooking in the oven).
  • In a bowl, mix sour cream and onion soup mix until well combined.
  • Place seared chicken breasts in a baking dish and spread the sour cream mixture evenly over the top.
  • Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until chicken is cooked through (internal temperature 165°F/74°C).
  • Garnish with chopped chives or parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add sautéed mushrooms or caramelized onions.
  • Use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for a lighter option.
  • Serve with steamed vegetables, rice, or mashed potatoes.
