This easy homemade guacamole is fresh, creamy, flavorful, and ready in just 10 minutes. Ripe avocado, lime, onion, tomato, and cilantro create a simple Mexican-inspired dip with optional jalapeño for heat.

Ingredients

  • 3 large ripe avocados
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped white onion
  • 2 Roma tomatoes, seeded and diced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and finely chopped, optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, plus more to taste

Instructions

  1. Cut the avocados in half, carefully remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a large mixing bowl.
  2. Mash the avocado with a fork or potato masher until it reaches your preferred consistency, leaving some larger pieces for chunky guacamole if desired.
  3. Squeeze the fresh lime juice over the mashed avocado and stir well.
  4. Add the white onion, Roma tomatoes, cilantro, and jalapeño, if using.
  5. Add the kosher salt and gently stir until everything is evenly combined.
  6. Taste and adjust with additional salt or fresh lime juice as needed.
  7. Serve immediately with tortilla chips or your favorite Mexican-inspired dishes.

Notes

  • For spicy guacamole, leave some jalapeño seeds intact, add extra jalapeño, or substitute serrano pepper.
  • For chunky guacamole, lightly mash the avocados and gently fold in the remaining ingredients.
  • For tomato-free guacamole, omit the Roma tomatoes.
  • Red onion can be substituted for white onion, and fresh lemon juice can be used if lime is unavailable.
  • For garlic guacamole, add a small amount of finely minced or grated fresh garlic.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Press plastic wrap directly against the surface to reduce browning.
  • Serve with tortilla chips, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, fajitas, tostadas, fresh vegetables, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, or toast.
